Interesting facts about the language
Macedonian (also Macedonian) is spoken by around two million people worldwide, of which 1.3 million live in the Republic of Macedonia and the remainder mainly in the neighboring countries of Bulgaria, Albania and Greece – but also in Western Europe and North America. Around 75,000 people live in Germany whose native language is Macedonian. The Macedonian language is closely related to Serbian and especially Bulgarian. Greek had a particularly significant influence on the language in the Middle Ages, from which around 700 borrowings have come to this day. In Macedonian colloquial speech, however, it is mainly Turkish that has left behind a large number of expressions. When Macedonia was part of the People's Republic of Yugoslavia, many Latin and Serbian expressions were integrated into the Macedonian language. Macedonian has been written using the Cyrillic alphabet since the 12th century until the present day. The Macedonian language uses the Serbian type of Cyrillic alphabet. However, the Macedonian alphabet has minor differences in a few characters and has one more letter than the Serbian one. The Macedonian alphabet consists of 31 letters.
