Interesting facts about the language
Croatian is a standard variety from the South Slavic branch of the Slavic languages and, like Bosnian and Serbian, is based on a Shtokovian dialect. In terms of grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, Croatian is so similar to Serbian and Bosnian that Croatian speakers can easily communicate with speakers of Bosnian and Serbian. Croatian is spoken by approximately six million people, the majority of whom (4.8 million) live in the Republic of Croatia (Republika Hrvatska). Croatian is the official language there; it is also an official language in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and the Austrian province of Burgenland. However, Croatian is not only spoken in places where it is an official language. There are also larger Croatian-speaking groups in Western Europe, primarily in Germany and all of Austria, but also in North America and Australia. The Croatian alphabet consists of 30 letters. Croatian is written using the Latin alphabet and some special characters (by adding diacritical marks).

Country info Croatia
Croatia is a country in the transition zone between Central and Southeastern Europe. The country lies to the east on the Adriatic Sea and partly in the southwest on the Pannonian Plain. To the northwest, Croatia borders Slovenia, to the north on Hungary, to the northeast on Serbia, to the east on Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to the southeast on Montenegro. The territory of the former Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovačka Republika), which today forms the southernmost part of the country, has no direct land connection to the rest of the country, as the sea access from Bosnia and Herzegovina, a few kilometers wide, lies in between. The area around Dubrovnik thus forms the country's only exclave. The country's capital is Zagreb. Approximately 4.2 million people live in Croatia.
