Interesting facts about the language

From the Sultanate of Oman to the People's Republic of Libya to the Kingdom of Morocco on the Atlantic coast, over 300 million people worldwide can communicate in Arabic. The spoken Arabic languages differ so greatly from one another that seamless communication between native Arabic speakers of different backgrounds and their dialects is often quite difficult. To overcome this difficulty, all speakers use Standard Arabic as a multifunctional standard language. Modern Standard Arabic differs from Classical Arabic, as it is recorded in the Quran, in terms of vocabulary (which has, admittedly, been greatly expanded in recent centuries), grammar, and pronunciation.

Incidentally, Arabic has also left a legacy of numerous terms in the German language. These include expressions whose origins are quite obvious, such as Bedouin, balsam, mocha, saffron, sesame, or vizier. But you'll also find terms that don't immediately suggest an Arabic origin. Did you know that chemistry, the elixir, the guitar, sugar, the digit, algebra, coffee, cotton wool, the carafe, the admiral, the magazine, the mattress, and checkmate are all terms with Arabic roots?
