Estonian is an inflectional-agglutinative language and belongs to the Baltic Finnic branch of the Finno-Ugric language group. The language is closely related to Finnish and the almost extinct Livonian language. It is distantly related to Hungarian. Estonian is the only official language of Estonia and is spoken there by 950,000 people. The remaining 1.1 million speakers, approximately 200,000 people, are emigrants living in Russia, Canada, Sweden, Finland, or Australia who speak Estonian. The Estonian alphabet consists of 27 letters and is based on the Latin alphabet. The alphabet uses the following letters: a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, š, z, ž, t, u, v, w, õ, ä, ö, ü, x, y.
