Bulgarian is one of the oldest Slavic languages. Bulgarian is written in the Bulgarian variant of the Cyrillic script. The Bulgarian alphabet consists of 30 letters.

Bulgaria is a country in Southeastern Europe. Its capital is Sofia. Approximately 7 million people live in Bulgaria. The country is located on the Balkan islands to the east. It is bordered by Romania to the north. It is bordered by Serbia and North Macedonia to the west, and Greece and Turkey to the south. Bulgaria lies on the Black Sea to the east. Besides Sofia, the larger cities are Varna, Burgas, Ruse, and Stara Zagora. The well-known rivers Danube and Maritsa and their numerous tributaries flow through the country and form the lowlands, which make up two-thirds of the country. There are two mountain ranges in the country: the Balkan Mountains and the Rhodope Mountains.
