The official language and language used in everyday life in Egypt is Arabic. Egyptian Arabic is a distinct Arabic dialect spoken as a native language by around 75 million people. The written language in Egypt is Standard Modern Arabic. Arabic belongs to the Afro-Asiatic language family and is counted among the Semitic languages within this family. In addition to Modern Modern Arabic and a variety of Arabic dialects (such as Saudi Arabian, Iraqi, Moroccan and – last but not least – Egyptian Arabic), these include Hebrew (in its modern form, Hebrew), Aramaic and various Ethiopian languages. Arabic is spoken mainly in North Africa and on the Arabian Peninsula. Egyptian Arabic is by far the most widely spoken dialect of Arabic.

Country information Egypt
Egypt is a country in northeastern Africa with over 97 million inhabitants. To the south, the country borders Sudan and to the west, and its northern natural border is the Levantine Sea, the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. The island of Cyprus is located approximately 380 km as the crow flies from the Egyptian coast. To the northeast, the country borders Gaza and Israel. To the southeast, it has an extensive coastline on the Red Sea with its two estuaries, the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Aqaba and Eilat, respectively. Saudi Arabia and Jordan lie opposite the latter, and ferry connections exist between them. Africa's longest river, the Nile, flows through the country from south to north, serving as its main lifeline, emptying into the Mediterranean Sea in a delta. Another lifeline is the Suez Canal, an artificial waterway of outstanding importance to the global economy, connecting the European Mediterranean with the Indian Ocean. Large parts of the country's territory are desert. The country's capital is Cairo, the largest metropolis in Africa and Arabia. The Cairo metropolitan area is one of the most densely populated urban regions in the world. Other cities with a population of over one million include Alexandria and Giza.
